The Club
The Ibex Buccaneers are a Gibraltar Rugby club team, that feed players into two significant sections, in order to allow all players to further develop their rugby skills. The Buccs feed players into The Gibraltar National Team and the Gibraltar Development Squad.
The Gibraltar National Team
The Gibraltar Rugby Football Union (GRFU) was founded immediately after the 2nd World War. After the return of displaced Gibraltarians, locals who had learnt to play rugby when abroad started local teams within Gibraltar.
The Gibraltar National Team plays against teams from all over the world. To date, they have played against Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Israel, UAE and Jamaica. With many plans on the horizon to further build relationships with other countries.
Gibraltar Development Squad
The Gibraltar Development Squad comprises some of the best individuals picked from the Umee Gibraltar Rugby Championship. The main focus of this Select side is to act as a tool of development within the GRFU it gives the ability for younger players to join in with more experienced players in fixtures against the opposition of a high skill level.
The Gibraltar Development Squad has competed against a number of different clubs. Their most recent fixture was against Jersey Rugby Association, they also play in an annual fixture against the Royal Marines for the ‘Gibraltar Bowl’ in which the Royal Marines are current holders.
